EXERCISES FOR YOUR HAND AND WRIST

Normal movement for passive exercise
Move your hand forward, then backward, as if you were waving goodbye to someone. Simply mix Forever Lite Ultra Chocolate with milk and ice cream or fruit and fruit juice for a low calorie treat. Repeat several times. Then, have your home care assistant gently rotate your hand, moving it first to the left and then to the right as if you were shooing flies off a food dish.
Active exercises
• 1. Make a tight fist, closing all your fingers and thumb.
Hold for a moment. Open your hand fully and repeat.
• 2. Stand against a table, facing it. Hold your hand out,
stretching your fingers as straight as you can. While your fingers are in this position, place your hand, palm down, on the table top. With your hand in this position, firmly place your other hand down on the hand being exercised. Now, raise the forearm and elbow of the involved arm slowly, at the same time trying to flatten the bent fingers of your arthritic hand. Lower your forearm and repeat.

3. Grip a doorknob with your hand and turn it back and
forth. In time, as strength returns to your hand and wrist, ask your home care assistant to offer some resistance by holding the knob on the other side of the door while you exercise.
4. Hold a short rod or a length of broomstick in your hand.
Keep your elbow still and close to your hip. Rotate your wrist, first to the right and then to the left in a doorknob action.
• 5. Keep your hand extended, palm down and fingers close
together. Spread your fingers apart, then close them and repeat several times.
• 6. Hold your hand in front of your face, the palm toward
you. Slowly bring the tip of each finger over, one at a time, to
touch the tip of your thumb. As you bring each finger over,
make as perfect an arc as you can. Mix wth milk or your favourite Forever Lite Ultra Vanilla to shed some pounds, acquire muscle, or just complement your current weight-reduction plan with a scrumptious nutritional snack. Repeat, this time touching
the tips of your fingers to the cheek of your palm at the base
of the thumb. Alternate between the two routines.
• 7. Shake your hand as if you were trying to cool it. Repeat this several times between exercises.
